What Is a Virtual CFO?
A Virtual CFO (vCFO) is a senior financial professional who works with your business on a part-time or retainer basis to provide the same strategic financial leadership that a full-time CFO would - at a fraction of the cost. This is ideal for startups, SMEs, and growing companies that need financial strategy but aren't ready to hire a ₹30-50 lakh per year CFO.

Virtual CFO Services in Mumbai
Most Mumbai businesses reach the point of needing a CFO well before they can justify one on payroll. A full-time CFO in Mumbai commands a package that only makes sense past a certain scale, yet the problems a CFO solves — pricing decisions, cash runway, fundraising readiness, board reporting — arrive much earlier. A virtual CFO engagement gives you that judgement on a defined time commitment.
We work with clients across Andheri, BKC, Lower Parel and Fort from our offices at 91 Springboard, Marol MIDC (Andheri East) and Jeevan Sahakar, Horniman Circle (Fort), and remotely across India.
The First 90 Days
A virtual CFO engagement that starts with strategy before the numbers are trustworthy produces confident advice built on sand. Ours starts with the foundations.
- Days 1–30 — establish the baseline. Reconcile the books to something defensible, rebuild the chart of accounts for decision-making rather than tax filing, and agree the handful of metrics that actually govern the business.
- Days 31–60 — install the reporting rhythm. A monthly pack with real commentary, a 13-week rolling cash forecast, and unit economics broken down by product, channel or client.
- Days 61–90 — move to forward-looking work. Annual operating plan, scenario models, pricing and margin review, and whatever the immediate strategic question is — usually a funding round, a hire, or a decision about a loss-making line.
Cash Flow and Runway
Profitable businesses fail on cash, and in India the gap between profit and cash is unusually wide: GST is payable on invoices raised rather than collected, TDS is deducted by customers before you see the money, and receivable cycles of 60 to 90 days are normal. A 13-week rolling cash forecast, updated weekly and reconciled against actuals, is the single most useful artefact a virtual CFO produces. It converts "we think we are fine" into a dated number.
Fundraising Support
Where a round is in prospect, the finance function has to be able to survive diligence. That means clean historical financials, a defensible model with assumptions a stranger can follow, a cap table that reconciles to the statutory registers, and resolved compliance history. It also means valuation: any priced round requires a Registered Valuer's report under Section 62(1)(c), and the Rule 11UA fair value drives Section 56(2)(viib) exposure. We handle that in-house — see our business valuation services.
Virtual CFO or Fractional CFO or a Full-Time Hire?
The labels overlap and are used loosely. What matters is the shape of the commitment: a virtual CFO is typically a defined monthly retainer covering reporting, cash and advisory, delivered by a team; a fractional CFO usually means a named individual for a fixed number of days a month; a full-time CFO makes sense once the finance function is large enough to need day-to-day leadership rather than periodic judgement. We set out the trade-offs in detail in fractional CFO vs in-house CA.
Where the underlying bookkeeping also needs to move off your desk, a virtual CFO engagement is commonly paired with outsourced accounting, so that the same team producing the numbers is the one interpreting them.
